CHRIST IS RISEN!

Christ is Risen!

If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith (1 Corinthians 15:13-14). Today's joy assures us that the preaching of the apostles was not in vain. And, most importantly, our faith is not in vain. Christ rose from the dead, having conquered death by his death, and gave life to those in the tombs. He gave life not just to those who have departed from us and are now bodily in a tomb, awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the general resurrection of the dead. But, first of all, Christ granted freedom to us, who are in the graves of our sins. This is the opportunity to be free from the power of sins and the devil. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ fills our lives with the highest meaning. This glorious event truly makes the goal of our life divine: To receive the gift of deification, to be resurrected with Jesus Christ, to become residents of the Heavenly Jerusalem, illuminated by the glory of God, and the Lamb is its lamp (Revelation 21:23).

The whole world lies in wickedness (1 John 5:19). This world shifts the blame for one's own sins (unbelief, disobedience, open rebellion against God) onto God. The consequences of these sins are manifested in the form of diseases, wars, disasters, and catastrophes. The world blames the Creator for all these horrors. But we know that the world, created beautiful by God (Genesis 1), was distorted by sin. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved (John 3:19-20). We are not able to change the world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out (John 12:31). We will not change those who reject the Savior’s death on the Cross and His three-day Resurrection. Unwilling to crucify themselves for Christ God, such unbelievers crucify Him for themselves and in themselves. We should leave the dead to bury their dead (Luke 9:60). Let us leave them to the Merciful Divine Providence. Possibly then the Lord Himself will find His sheep.

Meanwhile, let us leave all sadness, murmur, and despondency aside. Instead, let us lift up our hearts to Heaven, where the Mother of God and all the saints and righteous glorify our Savior with the victorious Easter hymn: Christ is risen indeed! We will exclaim with them: Christ is risen indeed! And Jesus Christ will fill our hearts with joy. And God shall wipe away all tears… and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away (Revelation 21:4). And the new life was given to us by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. And he will send us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, Who will cleanse us from defilement and give us to drink the water of His Grace. But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14). This is the great meaning of the preaching of the apostles, the meaning of our faith. Come, let us worship Him Who hath arisen from the dead and enlightened all things; for he hath delivered us from the tyranny of Hades through his Resurrection on the third day, granting us life and great mercy. (Sunday Great Vespers Aposticha Stichera Tone 7).
